He
would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat. I will satisfy you with honey out of the rock.
Psalm 81:16
Psalm 81 [10.] I am Yahweh, your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
But my people didn’t listen to my voice.
Israel desired none of me.
So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts,
that they might walk in their own counsels.
Oh that my people would listen to me,
that Israel would walk in my ways!
I would soon subdue their enemies,
and turn my hand against their adversaries.
The haters of Yahweh would cringe before him,
and their punishment would last forever.
But he would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat.
I will satisfy you with honey out of the rock.”
Meaning:
In this verse, God expresses His longing to provide for His people in a lavish and abundant manner. The imagery of feeding them with the finest of the wheat conveys the idea of God's desire to supply them with the best and most nourishing sustenance. It speaks to His heart of generosity and abundance towards His beloved children.
Moreover, the promise to satisfy His people with honey out of the rock is a vivid illustration of God's miraculous provision and ability to supply their needs in unexpected ways. In the barrenness of the wilderness, where rocks are typically devoid of any life-sustaining resources, God promises to bring forth honey, a symbol of sweetness and delight, to satisfy His people's hunger and thirst.
The significance of Psalm 81:16 lies in its portrayal of God as a generous provider who delights in blessing His people abundantly. It underscores the principle of divine provision, wherein God meets the needs of His people in ways that surpass their expectations and defy human understanding.
This verse also highlights the importance of obedience in experiencing God's blessings. Throughout the psalm, the psalmist exhorts the people of Israel to listen to God's voice and obey His commandments. The promise of abundant provision is contingent upon their willingness to heed God's instructions and walk in His ways. This echoes the sentiment expressed in Deuteronomy 28:1-2, where God promises blessings to His people if they diligently obey His voice and keep His commandments.
Furthermore, the imagery of honey out of the rock serves as a reminder of God's faithfulness and miraculous intervention in the lives of His people. Just as God provided water from the rock for the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 17:6), so too does He promise to satisfy their hunger and thirst with honey from the most unlikely of sources.
As we reflect on Psalm 81:16, let us be reminded of God's heart of abundance and generosity towards His people. May we heed His voice, walk in obedience to His word, and trust in His promise to provide for all our needs. Let us open our hearts to receive the lavish blessings He desires to pour out upon us, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His promises to those who love Him.
In conclusion, Psalm 81:16 is a beautiful expression of God's desire to bless and satisfy His people abundantly. It reminds us of the importance of obedience in experiencing God's blessings and His faithfulness to provide for our needs in miraculous ways. As we meditate on this verse, may we be encouraged to trust in God's provision and open our hearts to receive His abundant blessings in our lives.
